Translated from the Ladino. Read the original

The jabuticaba fruit, by its other name the Fruit of Brazil, is an extraordinary tree and the only tree in the world whose fruit grows on the trunk of the tree and not on the branches. When the fruit turns violet, it is understood to be ripe. Its countries of origin are Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. The jabuticaba fruit is a summer fruit, very juicy, and refreshing on days of great heat.

Jabuticaba, as seen in the photos: the fruits are on the trunk of the tree. At the beginning of spring, when the violet flowers begin to come out on the trunk of the tree, little by little the flowers grow larger and change into the form of grapes. These fruits gradually take the form of a large strawberry and can be kept for quite a long time. The tree gives fruit every 2 years. With this fruit one can make jam, preserves or fruit juices that are very refreshing on days of great heat. It is said that this jabuticaba fruit is medicine for the tonsils, for asthma and for diarrhoea.

Nature still keeps many secrets that we must learn, and we must appreciate everything we have in our hands, to make use of it without damaging what forms part of the world's ecology.
