What May Happen

In the years to come I do not believe the mobile phone will exist. Even those who manufacture these phones today do not believe in their future. We are not yet in generation 4.5, and already generation 5 and 6 are being talked about. Every day we wake up, it seems to us that the world is the same as 30 or 40 years ago. But we know that within these 30 to 40 years many things are going to change and will not be what they are today.

Technology will change, music will change, the way of life will change and the point of view of the new generation will change totally. I mean that the way of living and of seeing events will change. This makes us think that every new thing in science seems to us like a marvel or even magic. Today it seems impossible to us, but we know that cars that will drive without a driver are going to be normal things of every day. Today those of us over 80 are told not to drive. With driverless cars this too will be very normal.

Our companion S. Aji says we are going to have lamb or beef without slaughtering the animal. Giving the cells the muscle, the fat, the blood and the nourishment they need, these cells, multiplying, will give us the tastiest chop or the tenderest leg without the animal disappearing. And so Sami reminds us to return to dried broad beans, which are full of proteins. It is also said that laughing is like eating two chops a day. To each his own taste… And the shochetim will have more time to rest.

Of course, from now on researchers are working on artificial intelligence, on robots. We do not know very well what will happen within 10 to 20 years, and perhaps it will make us say that all this is coming from other stars, from another world. Let us not forget that energy is changing. Solar energy, the energy of the wind, of water, of the seas and oceans are becoming much more common. All this will change the role of oil and coal… The Internet, which we did not know a few years ago, will of course become a banal thing.

With the instruments that are beginning to be seen in the world, those who speak for example in Japanese and want to be understood in Ladino — the words will arrive in Ladino via our holograms or devices that are already being used… I will speak in Ladino and the German will hear it in German. This is already being used, and easier ways are being sought to adapt it to the whole world without having language frontiers. So no need for translators, nor to learn another language for years. Perhaps what we think will pass into writing without having pen or keyboard. With the work of microbiology, the functions of the human body may change, such as organizing new limbs and giving them new functions.

Work to avoid the problems of old age and lengthen life, work to advance medicine and serve humanity to suffer less from diseases, will be much easier. Perhaps doctors will find medicine to prevent forgetting, and they have already begun to put chips inside the body to control from afar various functions of people. Perhaps pills for men to avoid causing pregnancies will be in everyone's pockets. But also many other easy ways of having children are already at the disposal of many people. Perhaps we will have electricity without cable and without socket. Professions will change in the twenty years to come. Kodak had 170,000 employees 20 years ago. Today this firm does not exist.

Dear readers, we will not stop dreaming, but we will try to live in peace the day the Creator grants us. Not to forget the past, not to be anxious about the future, and to live today in fullness.
